Tuesday: Maker Spaces and Labs in Action

During their visit, participants will document their observations through photos, short videos, and notes. They will capture how the space is designed, which materials and techniques are used, and how learners are guided in their creative processes. Additionally, they will reflect on the impact of the makerspace: how does this environment foster creativity, collaboration, and innovation?

To help structure their observations, participants consider the following focal points within the makerspace:

Location: Rozet, Auditorium on the fifth floor

14:00 PM – 15:30 PM – Insight Exchange: Reflecting on Maker Spaces

Location: Rozet, Expo on the fifth floor

After lunch, all participants will reconvene for an interactive exchange session. Groups will present their visual reports and key takeaways, for example, through a short pitch or a gallery-style presentation. This session provides space for reflection and dialogue: what lessons can be taken forward, and how can these insights be applied in participants’ own educational contexts? By sharing experiences and observations, a rich understanding of the possibilities within maker education will emerge, showcasing the diverse ways in which it can be implemented.

16:00 PM – 18:00 PM – ArtEZ Urban Walk

Location: We depart from the MakerCosmos on the ground floor, all the way at the end of the hallway.

In the afternoon on Tuesday, we will take a tour of Artez University of the Arts. We will start at Rozet at the Makerscosmos and give you a nice view from the lookout point at the top of Rozet. During the tour, we will visit Artez and show you around the many workshops they have. Afterwards, we will drop you off at Nelson, a cafe close to Artez and the MakerCosmos, where you will be able to have a drink and a bite to eat.

Wednesday: Learning, Making, and Networking Together

9:00 AM – 12:00 PM – Materials as teachers: sustainability in maker education

Location: Rozet, MakerCosmos on the ground floor, all the way at the end of the hallway.

In this session, we will explore the potential of placing waste materials at the heart of maker education. What can working with unconventional materials teach us, and what do we want to teach new generations about makership?

Makers on the Move, an Arnhem-based initiative for circular maker education, invites you to join a hands-on process where we learn from both materials and each other. Together, we’ll generate a collection of fresh, challenging ideas focussed on material usage to support your educational practice.

Schedule:

We begin with a 45-minute maker activity called “Eigenwijze Materialen” (Stubborn Materials), followed by a 30-minute talk by Makers on the Move. After that, we dive into the core maker activity, a hands-on session lasting 1.5 hours. We conclude by reflecting together, combining our insights and discoveries.

12.00 PM – 13.00 PM – Lunch at your own convenience

13:00 PM – 16:00 PM – Exchange and Open Educational Resources (OER)

Location: Rozet, Auditorium on the fifth floor (Start and Conclusion) & square on the third floor and the Expo on the fifth floor (Group Work)

In the afternoon, an exchange session is held with students from the HAN Master MOVEL program, aimed at strengthening international collaboration and knowledge sharing between MOVEL master students (professional master) and Danish educational professionals. The session focuses on research and practice in design-based learning, open educational resources, and the role of the teacher as a designer.

The core questions guiding the session are:

How can teachers create space for design, research, and agency within the curriculum?
What can we learn from international collaboration and cultural differences in education?
How can open educational resources and sustainable practices contribute to innovative educational solutions?

As a result, participants can expect to:

Build stronger networks between Dutch and Danish educational makers.
Gain concrete ideas and inspiration to take back to their own contexts.
Deepen their knowledge and experience in design-based learning, open educational resources, and designing innovative learning environments.

Thursday: Maker Education in Practice

9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

As part of the Week of Making, you will visit primary schools in Arnhem and its surroundings that are participating in the event. Here, you will have the opportunity to observe how students work on maker projects and engage in conversation with the teacher and the students. Sharing experiences is central, with the goal of further enriching maker education.

12.00 PM – 13.30 PM – Travel time and lunch at your own convenience

13:30 PM – 16:00 PM – Park Walk: Reflecting on experience and shaping future collaborations

Location: We depart from the MakerCosmos on the ground floor, all the way at the end of the hallway.

Later in the afternoon, a city walk allows the participants to reflect on the past few days. The Danish participants discuss how they can apply their new knowledge and experiences in their own educational settings and brainstorm future collaborations with their (Dutch) colleagues.

18:00 AM – 20:00 PM – Networking dinner

Location: Rozet, square on the third floor

In the evening, a networking dinner brings together Dutch and Danish educational professionals in an informal setting. This dinner offers an excellent opportunity to further share experiences, discuss collaboration possibilities, and get to know one another better.
